Product description Inov8 Roclite 318 Gore-Tex Trail Running Shoes - 11

The Inov8 Roclite 318 Gore-Tex Trail Running Shoes feature a Met-Cradle upper webbing which is anatomically positioned to cradle the fore foot behind the metatarsal heads and provide a secure foot hold whilst running. TPU lacing support also provides additional cradling for an improved, secure fit. A Meta-Flex groove which is anatomically aligned in front of the metatarsal head aids the natural forefoot flex for improved protection of the foot while running. A fascia band increases propulsion efficiency and reduces fatigue in the foot. These Inov8's utilise an exclusive sticky rubber compound outsole which has been specifically developed using climbing rubber technology. This rubber optimizes grip in wet conditions. A unisex last designed on the average runner's foot provides a good fit for both genders, with a precise fit this last ensures minimal internal movement when contouring, ascending and descending.

  • Met Cradle - The upper webbing support in this boot is anatomically positioned to cradle the fore foot behind the metatarsal heads and provide a secure foot hold whilst running.

  • Sticky Rubber Compound - this shoe uses Inov8's exclusive sticky rubber compund which has been specially developed using climbing rubber technology. This rubber optimizes grip in wet conditions, however the trade off is it wears down quicker.

Not up to Inov8 standard
As a fan of Inov8 shoes I was hoping for the best from these 318's , but they fail to make the grade . They seem to have made the upper from a layer of Goretex covered by a layer of thin material that lets the water in and out . The Goretex may be waterproof , but as soon as water gets between the layers either it gets though the stitching or the pores of the Goretex get clogged by the film of water trapped beneath the outer layer so that it can't breath anymore and condensation quickly forms in cold conditions. Long wet grass and frosty days equals wet feet , not like the old 318's that were mega-snug in all weathers.

Inov8 Roclite 381 trail running shoes
This is a solid pair of fairly lightweight of trail shoes, more for the winter training. Grip is very good, Goretex uppers will keep water out to a certain extent but don't consider it waterproof. The sole feels rigid and thus far (couple of weeks into this purchase) provides a good grip and stability. I would not use this for road/concrete running as the sole doesn't look or is designed for that type, it look like it would wear down quickly but this just a theory but I bought this for the Trail and this is where it will stay.
The only downside to this, and other Inov8's I have had in the past is that the laces's tend to undo very easily, unless you double knot, In an ideal world a set of lock type laces system, especially considering what you're going to put the shoe through, would be the icing on the cake, hence 4/5 stars otherwise a well made Trail shoe.
A better review would be in about 4 months time when user has had time to fully run it into the ground.
