Rugged, comfortable, well made boot
I bought these boots as I go through a different pair of trainer/shoe around every 3 months. I wanted something that was casual and functional, something I could wear to work as well as outside. Having never owned a pair or Palladiums, I took a risk in getting these, despite little reviews on them. Well, I'm glad to say that these boots are just perfect for me. From the thick toe-capped front, to the durable tread, these boots are just what I needed. They've even done surprisingly well in the snow (although as they're made of canvas, I wouldn't recommend using them for too long...). All in all, I think these boots have exceeded my expectations. I will be buying another pair very soon.

Palladium All-Stars?
These Palladium's have a longish but slightly narrow fit, so if you're very broad-footed think about going up a size. When buying shoes or boots with rubber soles I'm always a bit concerned the rubber might not last very long but so far I've walked these over lots of rough ground without making much impression in them. There isn't a lot of padding in the sole, adding an extra removable insole can make a big difference, but otherwise they're comfy and seem well-made, if a bit over-priced for basically just canvas hi-tops. However they're very funky looking and a couple of people have already asked me where I got them from. They make a cool, grungy European alternative to the candy-coloured world of Converse All-Stars...

shoes are great, except for the following points:

-> Waterproofing: It is true the these shoes are very waterproof. However, the term breathable is perhaps misleading. The waterproof lining may let out some water vapour, but nowhere near enough stop swear accumulating on the feet. I bought these shoes for my 40 min walk to work. Everyday when I arrive at my office and change into my work shoes, I can see large patches of sweat on my socks. At first I though that the waterproof lining must be faulty, but this happened even on dry days. I imagine that this waterproofing is breathable under lab test conditions, but in practical use it is probably as good as wearing plastic bags for socks. I still stand by polished leather as the best upper for a shoe.

good cold weather boots
Very light, very very comfortable, keep feet very very dry. very very warm (would not use in hot weather) but lets face it, how much of that do we get in the uk. Best of all stink free.

To respond to 3star review I have now had these boots a year or two now and have experienced the foot sweat once or twice depending on what socks I wore and how hot a day it was. I would recommend he invests in a pair of Marino wool socks which will wick the sweat better and regulate his foot temp better. I mostly just wear normal light sock with these boots even in winter and have only experienced what he described a couple of times when my feet get over heated. I still rear these boots almost every day and have been so happy. I fully intend to purchase another pair if or when they wear out. Furthermore, I have been so impressed with Merrell that I have also purchased a pair of Chukka boots for the summer season. As these are not summer boots.
I would also agree they are a snug fit so...
