Problem with Shoelaces
I bought the shoes on 20/07 and so far have walked about 50 miles in them. The shoes are very comfortable and they are waterproof. There is a problem with the laces though one has snapped and the other is showing signs of wear. The laces are rubbing where they pass through the eyelets and this is causing the lace to rapidly wear through - I think this is a design flaw in the shoe because they laces should not wear through after just 50 miles. I have emailed Hi-Tec uk to complain and look forward to their reply.

These are the best walking shoes I have had (and I am comparing stuff like merrell, berghaus, trespass, salomon, scarpa, brasher). Sizing is on the generous size - i am 7.5/8 and bought an 8 which is roomy and wide fitting. I wear two pairs of socks for long walks so this is fine (for me). These Boots Are Made For Walking
This is an excellent pair of walking boots: sturdy, well-crafted, good quality materials, and attractive design. The moment I opened the box I knew one couldn't go wrong with these. Very comfortable and solid feel at the same time: I had no problems whatsoever with the size because I made sure I consulted the Hi-Tec sizes before ordering. Expensive? Well, not if you've had enough of wet feet in winter and had to buy 'cheaper' boots every year. I have a feeling these boots will last for quite a while. I'm so pleased with them that I have been moved to write my very first amazon review. Highly recommended.

Update, February 2010: I have just returned from snow-covered and sub-zero-temperature Moscow where these boots have kept my feet dry all through the six days I spent walking around the city.

Not Waterproof!
These boots may be comfy but they are certainly not waterproof. The first time I wore them in light drizzle over rough ground on a thirty minute walk they let water in at the seams. If you never intend to walk in the wet then they're fine, but as I live in Scotland where it's permanently wet they're not fit for purpose.

Returned my boots to Hi-tec customer services who were very helpful but would not/could not offer a refund. However they tested the boots and found them to be faulty and sent me a replacement pair of the latest version of this boot. Have only worn them once on very wet boggy ground and they seem to be OK so far. I did have slightly damp feet but i think that was because I stepped in a lot of puddles and the water probably came in over the top. Watch this space. I was impressed with customer services as I didn't even expect a reply to my email.

Hi-Tec Altitude walking boot.
I purchased these boots not for walking but for work. I am a gardener and needed good waterproof boots, not heavy, with good grip on a variety of surfaces.
I have worn them for 5/6 days a week since February and have no complaints.
They have proved to be an excellent purchase, so much so that I am buying a second pair for when these wear out.
I also use when walking dogs on the moors, in woodlands etc.

The upper sides where contact with leg above the ankle is very stiff and on first usage made legs sore. For subsequent wearings I used thicker socks rolled down below this point, which protected my legs and enabled the boots to become more flexible and
