Trainers/Hiking
I bought a pair of the hiking boot version of these a few years back (to do the Thames walk). The boots are very lightweight and very comfortable straight out of the box - these trainers are just as good if not better. I especially like the quick lace up system and the sole, which is the same long lasting and flexi type so you'll get years of wear out of them.

They are not as breathable as a pure running shoe if using for cross country/all terain running (but they are gore/waterproof so not supposed to be!) but good enough to wear for sports or for casual. I have a fairly normal (if slightly wider foot) so probably not good for narrow feet. I can thoroughly recommend.

Excellent pair of boots
I brought these boots to do the three peaks challenge next year. I've been running them in since I got them but there was really no need as they were perfect from the start. Combined with a pair of Wigwam socks these are the most comfortable fitting boots I have ever worn. They never let me down when we done Snowdon for a practice in the damp giving great grip and comfort throughout the entire trip. I hope the durability doesn't let them down but only time will tell..... At the moment well worth the money for these sporty looking walking boots.

Lightweight and comfortable but definatley not waterproof
I have worn these daily for the past 4 months so now feel comfortable commenting on my first pair of Salomons for the past 8ish years. IMO Salomon lost their way around 10 years ago with quality, sizing and longevity issues and to be honest these haven't wholey disapeared.
I live on the edge of the New Forest so use them for walking most weekends plus wear them daily in a fairly physical job involving outdoors, office, walking, lifting plus the odd 10+ mile walk along bits of the souhwest coast path.
The boots are back to their old levels of comfort and this pair at least have stood up to all manner of abuse. Tread is good and decent for most day to day conditions including rocks, shale, flint, grass, town, puddles (just) but asa you should expect has issues with rougher terrain. They are not without fault though having developed an annoying squeek when walking and they definatley are not waterproof. Regular puddles, wet grass and as I now know snow and you can expect wet...

These Boots Are Made For Walking
This is an excellent pair of walking boots: sturdy, well-crafted, good quality materials, and attractive design. The moment I opened the box I knew one couldn't go wrong with these. Very comfortable and solid feel at the same time: I had no problems whatsoever with the size because I made sure I consulted the Hi-Tec sizes before ordering. Expensive? Well, not if you've had enough of wet feet in winter and had to buy 'cheaper' boots every year. I have a feeling these boots will last for quite a while. I'm so pleased with them that I have been moved to write my very first amazon review. Highly recommended.

Update, February 2010: I have just returned from snow-covered and sub-zero-temperature Moscow where these boots have kept my feet dry all through the six days I spent walking around the city.

Not Waterproof!
These boots may be comfy but they are certainly not waterproof. The first time I wore them in light drizzle over rough ground on a thirty minute walk they let water in at the seams. If you never intend to walk in the wet then they're fine, but as I live in Scotland where it's permanently wet they're not fit for purpose.

Returned my boots to Hi-tec customer services who were very helpful but would not/could not offer a refund. However they tested the boots and found them to be faulty and sent me a replacement pair of the latest version of this boot. Have only worn them once on very wet boggy ground and they seem to be OK so far. I did have slightly damp feet but i think that was because I stepped in a lot of puddles and the water probably came in over the top. Watch this space. I was impressed with customer services as I didn't even expect a reply to my email.
