I went back to serious running a year ago and have not had luck with trainers here in Oman as there are limited choices. The one I am using (not Brooks - will not say as had only chosen it because it was the nearest to my feet requirement I could find here) has given me a callous that rubs inside and causes pain when I'm running. I thought about ordering online but I knew I had to do some research first and saw the "Shoe Advisor" section of Runner's World. Brooks Defyance 4 came out as one of their recommended trainers. After going through the choices, I chose Brooks I got taken in by the design :D Also it is marked with "Editor's Choice". Turned out to be a really good choice then. It's so light, so comfortable and it fits my wide feet well. No rubbing inside...the material also allows your feet to breathe (though in cold temperature, your feet might freeze!) All in all, an excellent choice!

Sizing for ASICS a bit inconsistent
I've had Asics trail shoes for the last four pairs of trainers. I find them very sturdy, particularly the Trabuco, and very good for a mixture of road and off-road running. Nice and chunky on the soles and superb cushioning. I am a supinator/neutral runner and these suit my gait.

Not that it is particularly important in a running shoe but I liked these because they are not a ridiculous colour - why do manufacturers assume that women want to wear pink, lilac or baby blue trainers?

The only trouble I find with ordering online without trying them on is that the sizes seem to vary - I have previously ordered Asics trainers of the same style in exactly the same size as a current pair but when they came they were clearly at least half a size smaller - despite being labelled the same size. These do seem very slightly smaller than my previous pair but not enough to warrant going up another size.

Overall really pleased with them as always and would...

I love Trabuco 14 trail runners but the material has changed
I love the Asics Trabuco 14 Trail running shoes... In fact, I ordered this one on previous experience. It gives support and stability, they are super comfortable, and I loved the idea that the material was sturdy. In fact, nothing has changed except that the mesh material and the inner lining seems to be flimsier than before. I wish they returned to the earlier material which seemed to be more resistant, and Gore-tex-like. If I've given 4 stars, it's because of this.

Other than this, these are great running shoes for trail, or mixed asphalt/trail terrain which is what I'm using it for.

Bought Another Pair they were that Good!
I love the Innov8 Roclite 390 Boots. Myself and a friends walk Munros every other weekend. I use a standard walking boot, and when i saw his Innov8 I first used to ridicule him calling them 'astronaut slippers'. After him convincing me they were the best boot he had ever worn i reluctantly purchased a pair. Now I am converted to Inno8 walking boots, and trail shoes. They are the lightest thing on your feet like walking in a really comfortable trainer without the usual ankle weight that a normal boot brings. I have had them over all sorts of terrain, and they are 100% waterproof.
I am converted like other walkers that these new lightweight boots can deal with all type of terrain, and the old myth about a heavy support walking boot is a must is lost forever. There are five of us walking and now four us us have these, and the new version. I like these that much I purchased a spare pair just in case.

Good shoe let down by weak lacing system
I bought a pair of these shoes in August 2011, and have worn them for 6 long walks(25m plus). The shoes are very comfy, excellent at keeping water out and have superb grip, even on steep, muddy slopes. They are also very light.

However the speed lacing loops are weak. One gave way after two walks, and a second after six. Also the stitching keeping the loops in place is coming away in several places. The lacing system will not last a year in my opinion and then the shoes will be useless. I wash my shoes after every walk, so I would question whether they are robust enough for muddy walking, which begs the question what sort of walking are they intended for? Clean water only?

If the lacing system could be improved, perhaps with a return to eyelets (what was wrong with them anyway?) the shoes would be great.
